Didn’t it took me longer to write review over some movie again. Look like now days, I am writing too many things but this part of me been away for a while.

The above is not exactly true as in all of my last reviews, I mentioned that I come to write over something only if it touches me in that way and so this explains why not so many reviews over movies from my side even if I kept a separate category for it. Anyway … let me start with the special one.

Starting with lines that I am happy for Hindi Cinema coz they started making movies differently, been so common about my reviews. The reason is simple, they really started doing this otherwise, we would not have been to get Kartik Calling Kartik kind of movie surfaced on the screen. Its one of those movie, which plays in your mind and makes you think rather than staying on the screen only and sure had the reasons to make it into my movie reviews collection.

He tried to investigate from exchange as well, but they say no calls made to him … Can you believe it?

How’s that possible? Is someone playing with him? Is he insane? If so, then how others heard the same call in front of himself sitting quiet? Is there any ghost? Supernatural? What is it?

The puzzle goes long, the Kartik on the other side, changes the life of Kartik dramatically. The loser guy becomes successful and even gets his girl. Keep suspense a side, the story tells us the ancient truth that somewhere answers to all of our questions lie within us. “  Just finished watching the superb My Name Is Khan and here are the tweets that I made while watching  MNIK. My twitter page could be found here. Share your experience with me. “

MNIK

It went wrong that we got Shivsena seeming against with it, but MNIK requires support in much broader sense. Its not about Shivsena, its not about Hindu-Muslim or Hindustan-Pakistan, its about humanity and about the lesson that the name doesn’t make a man terrorist.

Watch and Show Hindi Movies online

Many people might be searching for such titles, whenever some movie get released. Sometimes due to poor cam quality of CDs / DVDs that hit to market in early rounds or just for free access of movies. Its been illegal since long, but was an already established trend to download movies online, which seems to be much difficult to stop or keeping track of. It seems that finally movie business started to respond in creative ways.

First I got to hear some weeks back that 3 Idiots will come online on YouTube after 12 weeks of release as announced by the director itself and today when I was just checking my subscriptions, then came across an article from Digital Inspiration that says about the collection of Hindi movies already online. Fun is that these are legal to be distributed like normal YouTube links. I am not sure about Revenue Sharing Program of YouTube, but many big banners like Shemaroo Entertainment, Rajshri, Sony Pictures, CBS, MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment, Starz and UltraHindi already seems to join the same.

This might be good way to get profit from dead market big movies of past. Whatever, but its a too good news for movie lovers, they could get hold on their favourites, whenever and wherever they want… not to mention.. all the movies are available in high quality. 🙂 Although till now, only a handful of movies there, hoping that soon more will be added and also some quality content from English Movie stock.

Chetan Bhagat Vs Amir, VVC and Hirani – FPS Vs 3 Idiots

amir-khan

Amir Khan; The man known as perfectionist, famous for his policy of signing only one film per year only claiming that it helps concentrating on quality, the one man, who really given us hope to achieve Oscar Awards for India, the man, who directorial debut “Tare Zameen Par” still known to be biggest contribution to Indian Cinema in its kind, the man, whose name in credits is kind-of-guarantee for the success. His Lagaan almost made it to Oscars and Ghajini became highest grossing Indian Film of all time. He has worked in only 40 movies (as I know) in span of 36 years (1973-2009), but still known as one of the biggest Indian male actors in front of many actors, who might have done hundreds.

chetan-bhagat

Chetan Bhagat; the man, who really made many of Indians read English novel, who earlier thought that what fun in reading something, if you need to keep a dictionary in side to understand. The Delhi born Ex-IITian, Ex-IIM is known for his unique writing style, which tends to be simple, with linear narratives and vivid storytelling. He has written only four ‘English’ novels (Five Point Someone, One Night @ Call Center, Three Mistakes of my life, Two States), but his each of novel sells like hot cake in this non-English country, which one could compare only with the phenomenon that how Devki Nandan Khatri made millions of people learn Hindi only for reading Chandrakanta and its successor stories.

With my trend of being late into things, here I am back again over issues between Chetan Bhagat and Team 3 Iditots. I was really surprised and even mentioned in my review over the movie that Story writer’s name list should include Chetan Bhagat’s name and “Dont know why not mentioned”, but that time I was not aware that this has already made a big bang across the country and sure it should have been. Legal obligations aside, but for me, on the moral grounds, its insane to write off that Three Idiots only loosely resembles 3-5% with the novel Five Point Someone and so the name of Chetan could not be included and shown in writer’s list.

3idiot

Complexity of legal contracts aside, whom many of us might not even read completely (for example students living outside may check their room rent agreements and all of us could check our employment letters), most of us still feel assured in light of best practices & moral obligations on the other side only and come to learn the things in hard ways only, so is Chetan. Here is the copy of legal contract in pdf.

The controversy started with the release of movie to theaters, which was 25th December 2009 and after the same, messages of congratulations were not only heading to Amir, VVC and Hirani team, but in kind of more numbers to Chetan Bhagat itself. Thousands of emails of stunned fans writing that why not they are able to see the name of Chetan in credits (Its there for a snap of time, but not in stories sections), were bound to made the novel writer to comment upon.

Chetan, who is also a columnist with Dainik Bhaskar & The Times Of India, and writes on political issues, chosen not to comment over the same through these papers or media and as claimed in his blog post, first attempted to contact Team Three Idiots via mail, SMS and Phone, but probably found them more busy in celebrating the success. Obviously helpless Chetan (might have gone through his contract papers and got to know that technically they can up to an extent), who was not having enough to file a case against them, thought to answer their readers himself and dragging Team Three Idiots into court of morality though his blog posts and tweets and the controversy begin.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani aside, many of the fans might have not expected Amir to comment in this way against legally almost helpless Chetan  Bhagat. But there were many comments from the actors himself, which sure deepen the pain felt by the Author.

Amir Khan’s words

“ He is trying to take away the credit from the film’s writer Abhijat Joshi, which I am very upset about. It is an attempt on his part to try and take the credit away from the person who has actually worked on the script. It’s very unfortunate. There should not be any confusion to anyone that Abhijat is our film’s writer. "

" But in my opinion the credit should be given to Abhijat. For three years, this man has worked on the script. Nobody knows him, but Chetan is a big star. "

" Abhijat has written the script and Raju Hirani worked on it. Raju and Abhijat took the idea from Chetan’s book. The starting point is Five Point Someone, but after that the script has changed entirely. "

Chetan’s replies

“ The only reason it has surfaced after the movie’s release is because Five Point Someone has a few million readers, and when you copy a popular story claiming it as ‘original’ and ‘completely different’, people are going to find out. People did, and so did a lot of media journalists. ”

“ The case is as simple as the makers claiming the story as their own, and clearly it is not. Pre-release, the makers made press statements like the movie is only ‘very loosely’, ‘2%-5% inspired by the book’. After release, those who have read the book and seen the movie (and frankly, I think those are the only people who have the right to comment) find the film to be an adaptation of Five Point Someone. The setting, characters, plotline, dramatic twists and turns, one-liners, theme, message – almost all aspects that make up the story are from FPS. Yes, there are some changes, any adaptation requires that – but it is no way an original story. Leading movie critics have privately admitted to me that the film is 70% the book. Still, don’t take my word for it – go read the book, watch the film. ”

Although Amir Khan and Chetan Bhagat both stopped themselves on writing/ speaking anymore over the controversy, but this controversy still shows the true face of Indian Cinema and reflects that why we are still struggles to get a mere Oscar for any category in years. There are numerous examples of lifted stories from all over the world, which made into top box office hits (likes of Ghajini, Murder etc) and sure one should not get surprised, if VVC shouts over Journalist on calling movie 70% based on Five point someone, after all they paid 11 lacs to Chetan for the story (even if they don’t understand that right to adopt is another thing and right to story is another) at least as Indian Directors really think in this way.

Now, coming to points for which I thought to write my blog post- FPS Vs 3 Idiots

Five Point Someone Three Idiots

Its a story about three students Hari, Ryan and Alok in IIT (Top College of Engineering), who try to cope up/ survive against the monotonic education system.

Its a story about three students Farhan, Rancho and Raju in IEC (Number one college of Engineering), who led by Rancho try to fight up/ survive against the monotonic education system.

The narrator of the movie is Hari, whose status lies between the rest two individuals; revolutionist Ryan and fearful Alok and who finds himself admirer of Ryan from the day one.

The narrator of the movie is Farhan, whose status lies between rest two indiduals; charismatic Rancho and fearful Raju and who finds himself open admirer of Rancho from the day one.

Ryan stands against the hostel ranging from the day one, which marks his introduction into IIT.

Rancho stands against the hostel ranging from the day one, which marks his introduction into IEC.

All three finds themselves standing against the strict HoD, whose son has committed suicide under pressure of making into entrance (the fact, which the HoD come to know only by his own daughter in last part of the story)

Raju’s house with invalid father and poor mother with a sister of marriageable age and Maruti car as dowry.

Hari get smitten by Neha; the daughter of HoD.

Rancho got smitten by Piya; the daughter of HoD.

Alok jumps out of the institute roof because they are caught stealing papers and get lots of bones broken but still survives the life. The stealing was influenced and helped  by Neha; daughter of HoD and three were caught cause Hari calls Neha from Office Phone.

Raju jumps out of the roof because Professor Virus tells him that he will be expelled from college, if he does not admit that Rancho and Farhan are responsible for his housebreak get lots of bones broken, but still survives the life. But paper stealing scene is also there in the same way here the stealing was influenced and helped  by Piya; daughter of director and three were caught cause Rancho calls Piya from Office Phone.

Character of Venkat;the studios guy for whom Alok leaves his friends so that he could get good grades although suffers badly with him in funny ways. Alok comes back to his friends leaving Chatur when Ryan helps his invalid dad.

Character of Chatur Ramalingam; the studios guy for whom Raju leaves his friends so that he could get good grades although suffers badly with him in funny ways. Raju comes back to his friends leaving Chatur when Rancho helps his invalid dad.

In his job interview, just came from hospital Alok speaks out from heart in polite and simple ways that why he tried to commit suicide and why his marks gone so bad in fear and Kamal; the selector there still dramatically selects him for the job on his honesty.

This is not the end of list for similarities and sure there are many many differences (as one I pointed out that Chetan titled his novel as what not to do in IIT, while Hirani made it to say that how to), but still its not that hard to decide whether the similarity is 3-5% or 70% and who should be given the credits for storyline.
I really recommends you all to buy and read the book (it should be only Rs. 75/- or little more than that), so that could really come to know how life in IIT is and how original work FPS was, why Chetan and his readers feel hurted …. rather than thinking that this controversy is another means of getting publicity for already well known Author or the novel Five Point Someone.

3 Idiots – reminds you those old lovely days

“Listening to heart and chasing dreams and ideas what matters you most, without caring enough for rules, but the life and people who matter …. Isn’t it what you wanna how the world should have been? Three Idiots lead by Rancho just try to take over the same goal once again.”

Keeping my tradition of being late into trendy things, I was the one, who come to read Chtan Bhagat’s Best Seller “Five Point Someone” by year 2008, almost four year after its release and being the frank one, I would admit that it was the first english novel, I ever finished up to the end. It sure touched me like the way it touched others (after all, its been bestseller for straight five years) and obviously it should touch to all of us, who start running since they born without thinking that “is this race all they want?”

“After talking over child education system brilliantly, it was kind of only Amir’s right to take over this story made to make us re-think about our ‘top-notch’ professional education system and grading system. Keeping the brilliant script of Chetan aside, performances and fundas the movie consists of, were enough for making the movie as best entertainer for the last week and probably the first month of the new year Twenty Ten.”

This movie does not really adopt the whole storyline exactly as it was and as it was done in Hello (Adopted from another novel of Chetan named “One Night @ call center”, but Hirani and Vidhu have added their own elements in this movie. It was kind of necessary as well coz movie audience and novel audience are not the same. Chetan titled his novel as what not to do in IIT, while Hirani made it to say that how to, call it Hiranisation of Five Point Someone.

Three boys led by one extra-ordinary one “Rancho” challenge the system in their ways, learn a few things from education system, teach a few, show an insight to the people, who don’t know about our engineering and education system yet, fought with the rules, broken the rules, at the end; find in their ways that what they are meant for and here the story ends in filmic & dramatically happy ending.

Many feel surprised that how Amir still look younger and fresh like some twenty something, many respect Boman for brining its own kind of humor to Hindi Cinema, many claim that Chetan’s novels are inherently made for movies only, but this movie is a must watch for all of us.

The water tank, where the three idiots were used to go, reminds me tower of science faculty of Allahabad University and my days with it. Lots of memories, lots of flashes …. the way I studied, the way, I irritated my teachers 😉 The way, I challenged the rules in side the faculty, hostel, the way, my definitions were different than others, the way after many ups and downs the degree somehow ended, the way everyone of us made their places in this rat-racing world. Everything just seems so fresh, bringing a rare smile on my face.

“I really miss those days, those friends, where we had lots of problems, but life was true, we were innocent, we were standing for everyone even strangers, those pretty smiles ……. Thanks Amir, Thanks Hirani and Thanks Chetan for brining all the memories back together in twenty ten.”

Looking for the day, when someone will make movie on third remaining novel of Chetan “Three Mistake of my life” coz as per my view, its been most filmic novel wrote by Chetan and deserved to be big hit than other two, with due respect critically acclaimed “Five Point Someone”.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani Review

Ranbeer’s craze really seems to speeding up and he deserves as with his kind of movies, he is bringing innocent romantic comedy genre back into game. It was in the same way awaited movie, like Wake Up SID, Love Aaj Kal or 3 Idiots due to its fresh cast and looks. I was not expecting it to craft maturely like Love Aaj Kal, but it really given me much emotional moments like the earlier.

The film was shot in Ooty, Mumbai, Pune, Goa and Turkey.

This movie received mixed reviews in its start, but business of 6.75 carores at friday, 7.75 carores at Satusday and finally more than 10 carores on Sunday, proved that where the movie is heading. Amazing to notice was,

“Ranbir is pairing with actresses very easily either it was Deepika, Sonam, Bipasha, Konkana or Katrina now. The On-Screen chemistry of Ranbir-Katrina is electrifying and they are looking extremely good together.”

The movie starts lightly and soon slips into serious romantic emotions. The first innocent nodes, where we fear to say her coz don’t know how will handle her answer. The fear to loose her, the inability to trust yourself that she will love you ever makes us hopelessly following God only. This all comes so smoothly like so natural in face and expressions of Prem (Ranbir Kapoor).

We feel the pain of endless waiting in face of Prem, when Jenny (Katrina) doesn’t show up after promise and he came to know that she is in Goa now. We find our sympathy moving towards the boy, who was always with Jenny without asking anything. Can’t she see? With falling of Prem over grass, we really knew that much has been fallen for him.

Why we love someone this much that not even let her know a little? Why when everyone could have seen the love in our eyes, why when everyone could have seen us changing for her, why can’t she? Why? I wish in real life people like Prem could have been really this much lucky to get their love back.:)

Another beautiful movie for the romantic boy!!! keep it up.

London Dreams: Dreams are life and life …?

Look like the Film Industry woke up again after a dull period and after giving up shit kind of movies in last few weeks except Wake Up Sid, finally some fresh fruit cake arrived. London Dreams did exactly the same, what it was expected to do, it rocks in spite of the facts that remain unfolded at the end in the same way human heart is; Dreams are life and life …?

Amadeus; Is the name rings a bell? No!!! Let me give you a hint. It’s a movie that won straight Eight Oscars. Oh! I am sorry, even I didn’t know the name till London dreams reviews brought it to my notice. It’s the movie, London dreams was actually based upon. Milos Forman’s Amadeus traced the stormy comradeship between Antonio Salieri (F Murray Abraham), the Vienese court composer, and legendary genius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce), while London Dreams talk about the tale of friendship and envy, the story is about two close buddies. While one is Arjun (Ajay), the ambitious guy who believes only in his goal and that is to become famous on the stage so that he fulfills his grandfather’s dream, on the other hand, there is Mannu (Salman) who lives for the moment and is a charmer with his honest heart. Both Arjun and Mannu have a rare passion for music.

The few words from the Official London Dreams Website

Mannu (Salmaan Khan): Loud and boisterous, he is loveable rouge who chases women, drinks heartily and is heavily into debt. He is an absolute devil, who happens to sing like angel. His only redeeming feature is his absolute belief in his friendship with Arjun.

Arjun (Ajay Devgan): Intense and darkly brooding, he is a complex man burdened by guilt, jealousy and the belief that God has abandoned him. But he’s also deeply committed to making the dream that haunted him childhood into reality. Such is his compulsion to fulfill his dream that he doesn’t hesitate to manipulate and destroy the one human being who has implicit and total faith in him – his friend Mannu.

Priya (Asin): She is this conservative South Indian Girl weaned on Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam who heart secretly yearns for hip hop and rock. When she meets Arjun, she’s impressed by his intensity and love for music and then she meets bold, bad Mannu, who declares his love for her at first sight. She laughs him off, little realizing that she’s going to be the catalyst who will turn the dreams into nightmares.

Zoheb (Ranvijay): He is blindly loyal to Arjun and only sees the world through the prism of Arjun’s eyes – and so Arjun’s joy is his joy, Arjun’s pain is his pain and Arjun’s perceived enemy, he makes his own too.

Wasim (Aditya): He may be Zoheb’s brother. He may be as loyal to Arjun, but isn’t as blind and retained the capacity to tell right from wrong… good from bad.

London Dreams plays out like a classical Amadeus story, where two friends, one jealous of the other for his talent and recognition, plots the downfall against the other behind his back in betrayal most foul. Arjun (Ajay Devgan) has a dream, and that is to take his music to London, and play at the renowned Wembley stadium, where his grandfather had failed in his time and ended with death leaving the family with a hatred for music. He spends his early teenage life honing his musical skills, and ever ready to sniff out any opportunity to scale the music ladder until his goal is reached. His is a singular mind obsessed with the single goal, so much so that he’s willing to self-flagellate (!) himself when his mind gets swayed by Priya (Asin) and the chance for romance, or any other distractions that crosses his path that day actually.

Ajay Devgn plays Arjun with enough menace and envy to make him believable as a man who would go to great lengths and at any costs to ensure his road to glory is not jeopardized. Salman Khan’s Mannu on the other hand, is blessed with great musical talent without even trying, and while Arjun sees this as an advantage to be gained should he bring Mannu back to London and join his band, little did he realize that Mannu’s country boy demeanour would start to win the fans over, as well as Priya. There are plenty of scenes which set up this innocent usurping of another’s thunder, and the decisions that come to spark off the entire turn of events just after the intermission.

Leaving all the detailing from here. Here are my comments…

Loved the way, Mannu chased the girl in his teenage and also his one liners all the way. J You call me Devil from Inside, I might be, but don’t say that you didn’t smiled over the same.

Many of us, might have waited for the same movie for the another look of the beautiful Asin and believe me, she starts from the same place, she finished in Ghajini. As much of screen, she got, she rocked, either it be the first appearance or it goes with romancing with Mannu, she did it perfectly and superb part of the same was; she was not to do the loud part as she did in Ghajini and her character always been sober and glamorous throughout the movie. Long way to go for the girl in Hindi movies too.

Back to Arjun, somewhere I find myself at the same losing side as Arjun and so I chosen the same title. Dreams are life and if even after doing everything right, we don’t get them then? Movie says in Om Puri’s words that it’s wrong to think that only you deserve, it’s wrong to be heartbroken on one defeat. Arjun heard these words and came back to his friend, but I still left with the question, what if we betted our life on the same dream? What if that defeat meant to change our lives? What if we will never be able to justify that why not we, why someone else without efforts? May be the film tried to answer, may be literature answers the same question, maybe I am enough mature to understand, but still the same question remained …..

What’s my fault, why I have destiny against me?

You call Arjun devil, I will not. You think he did wrong, I think he still lost. You think Mannu has the big heart, but I know he will never be able to bring best smile for Arjun as he lost the same.

Yes! It’s still a sad ending for me.

Wait! Wait! All this is personal comment. Movie is superb. A must watch even if Aladin is in competition (it’s a kid movie yaar). Salmaan proves again that he is still part of king trio. J
